“Rebirth Island is a DMZ: Recon map.”
Rebirth Island was added to DMZ: Recon in Season 4 — Eternal Prison (April 2026) with a reworked Prison, a Stronghold you can explore and the Nikto boss.
Origin, evidence and sources
Origin: Confusion with the Battle Royale version of the map, which has been in CODM for years.
What we found:
- The official Season 4 announcement lists Rebirth Island joining DMZ: Recon with a new extraction mechanism, an opening cutscene and updated points of interest.
- Activision's own Rebirth Island guide describes the gated Prison, the roof exfil console and Nikto.
False
serversRated 2026-10-19
“You can pick your matchmaking server from the region setting on your profile.”
The region shown on your profile only changes which leaderboard you appear on. Matchmaking picks the closest server automatically and CODM has no manual server selector.
Origin, evidence and sources
Origin: Guides about changing the leaderboard region are widely misread as server-switching guides.
What we found:
- Multiple guides agree: the region on the basic profile tab is used for Weapon Mastery and leaderboard rankings, not matchmaking.
- The game places players on the nearest server; changing the leaderboard region does not alter matchmaking or chat.
False

“Using a VPN to land on a different region's servers is harmless.”
Guides and players report account action up to permanent bans for VPN region-hopping. Even when it works, you play on high ping and your squad does not.
Origin, evidence and sources
Origin: VPN marketing and 'bot lobby' guides.
What we found:
- At least one widely shared guide warns that switching servers with a VPN can lead to a permanent ban.
- The claim that matchmaking is purely IP-based comes from VPN advertising, not from Activision.
False
namesRated 2026-10-19
“If the game rejects your new name, the Rename Card is refunded.”
Several guides report the card is consumed even when the name is rejected for length or a disallowed character. Test the exact string before you spend.
Origin, evidence and sources
Origin: Players assuming a failed rename cannot cost anything.
What we found:
- Guides note that rejections usually come from length or an unaccepted character and that the card is used up either way.
- Our Name Generator shows code-point and UTF-16 counts and flags risky characters for exactly this reason.

namesRated 2026-10-19
“CODM names can be 16 characters long.”
Most guides say 14 characters (minimum 2). A couple say 16, and one outlier says 25. No official figure exists, and how the game counts stylized Unicode is undocumented.
Origin, evidence and sources
Origin: Name-generator websites with different numbers.
What we found:
- The most common answer across guides is 14 characters using letters, numbers and underscores.
- Sites claiming 16 or more are mostly commercial name generators.
- Treat 14 code points as the safe ceiling and test anything longer with a free first rename, never with a paid card.

“Items in your safe slot survive a death in DMZ: Recon.”
Dying strips your loadout except what is in your safe slot(s). Key cards and valuables belong there.
Origin, evidence and sources
Origin: Standard DMZ: Recon mechanic that new players miss.
What we found:
- Community guides consistently describe the loadout as lost on death except for safe-slot items.

“Serpent Island has exactly ten key cards.”
One community guide counts ten key-card locations with matching secret rooms. We have four mapped and have not independently confirmed the total.
Origin, evidence and sources
Origin: A TikTok guide series.
What we found:
- The ten-card figure appears in one creator's guide and has not been corroborated by an official source.
- POI counts for the island also vary between guides (10, 11 and 12), so expect the card count to shift with updates.

“Quick Play only uses the northern half of Serpent Island.”
Quick Play (Season 3, 2026) is condensed to Serpent Island's northern POIs, allows up to four squads and moves the exfil switch outside the Ship.
Origin, evidence and sources
Origin: Patch notes and community guides.
What we found:
- A community-maintained guide documents the northern-POI restriction, the four-squad cap and the relocated switch. We rate it true based on consistent player reports; the official notes are brief.

“A nuke goes off offshore mid-match on Rebirth Island.”
Players describe an offshore nuclear explosion partway through Rebirth Island matches. It is widely reported but we have not found it in official patch notes.
Origin, evidence and sources
Origin: Player clips after the Season 4 update.
What we found:
- The event is described in a community guide; official material mentions a new extraction mechanic but not a detonation.

“DMZ is coming back on PC and console.”
DMZ returns in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, with Early Access for pre-orders from October 20, 2026. This is separate from CODM's DMZ: Recon, which keeps its own maps and progression.
Origin, evidence and sources
Origin: Modern Warfare 4 marketing.
What we found:
- Pre-order Early Access date appears in Activision material and coverage. Nothing indicates CODM progression carries across.

“Kui Ji's cosmetic reward is yours the moment he dies.”
You have to exfil with it. The official guide says the reward goes to your Warehouse only if you escape with it; a wipe after the kill loses it.
Origin, evidence and sources
Origin: Players posting Kui Ji kills and asking where the skin went.
What we found:
- The DMZ: Recon 101 guide: defeat Kui Ji for rare cosmetics, and "if you escape with the reward, you'll be able to bring it back to your Warehouse."
- Creator videos on unlocking the Kui Ji skin stress extracting after the kill.

“More DMZ: Recon maps and a new DMZ season are coming within a quarter.”
A leak write-up claims a new DMZ: Recon season in three to four months and additional maps after the next quarter. Nothing official yet.
Origin, evidence and sources
Origin: Mythic Melee datamine coverage on a fan blog.
What we found:
- item4gamer describes the claim as roadmap detail but cites no Activision source.
- Activision's Season 9 announcement does not mention DMZ: Recon roadmap items.

“DMZ: Recon is first-person only and has an in-match buy store.”
Both details come from pre-launch leaker impressions relayed by TechRadar. We have not confirmed either against the current build; send a clip.
Origin, evidence and sources
Origin: Pre-launch leaker posts, November 2025.
What we found:
- TechRadar's launch coverage relayed leaker claims of first-person only play and an in-match buy store.
- The official DMZ: Recon 101 guide does not address perspective; the Building 21 Buy Station exists in the PC version.
